    Philibert Dessaignes high school

On a site that presents several construction phases, from the 19th century to the 1970s, our involvement in the extension and restructuring of the high school aims at continuing the dialogue between the buildings, while enhancing the particularly rich vegetation of the place.

The project of extension and restructuring of this complex primarily seeks to synthesize the different architectural existing pieces: nineteenth-century buildings, annexes added in the 1970s, recent gymnasium… all on a vast wooded plot located in the city center. To connect the whole, the composition is articulated on both sides of a distributive «planted alley», that offers a new centrality within the establishment. The main extension thus faces the existing building, to which it is connected by a footbridge forming, on the ground floor, a covered area that serves the recreational spaces. It incorporates concrete overhangs of structure and cover, as in the 1970s. Standing in bow on the first floor, the documentation and information center, glazed, offers a panoramic view of the site, like a trademark of the architect.
